My favorite book so far of 2025

I have an incredible amount of love for Jeff Tweedy for writing this book. So much so that after I finished it, I immediately started reading it a second time. I’ve been a musician for as long as I can remember, but I’ve never considered myself a songwriter. I can a put a beat to anything on a drum kit, bang out a chord progression on guitar, and harmonize with the best of them… but I’ve never managed to write a single damn song. For some reason, songwriting has always felt out of reach to me - I’d convinced myself that I just didn’t posess the required talent or creativity. Tweedy kindly shattered that notion two pages in.

The book contains some super useful information around designing a healthy songwriting practice. More importantly, Tweedy channels empowerment and inspiration in a way that caught me completely off guard. Since reading this book, I’ve experienced a wave of musical creativity. If you are a musician/artist, or if you just want a window into the creative process, I can’t recommend it enough.
