Shut Up and Listen

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of working with executive coach Igor Gorlatov (Groove Management). Our sessions have been part strategy, part self-inquiry — and quite transformative.

What began as a need to delegate more evolved into something deeper: a rethinking of what leadership actually means in fast-moving, high-context environments. Together, we explored how to lead not just by assigning tasks, but by shaping the conditions for others to take meaningful ownership.

In our article, From Task Manager to Team Catalyst, Igor and I share one turning point from our work together — a shift in posture that changed how I interact with my team.

Some takeaways that stuck with me:

  • Strategy starts with alignment — not just with the company, but with yourself
  • Delegation isn’t about doing less — it’s about creating space for others to step in and grow
  • Curiosity is more powerful than control
  • Small experiments can rewire entire systems

This process hasn’t been linear, but it’s been energizing — and the impact has extended far beyond the experiment’s initial scope. I’m sharing this story in case you, too, are finding that the leadership playbook you were handed isn’t quite enough for the leadership your team needs. If this resonates with you and you’d like to explore this in the context of your work, I can’t recommend Igor enough.
